Tellico and Ubuntu 8.04

Hi to Everyone !

I have some problems with Tellico, as soon as I build a tc database that gets over 15,000 items or so. This concerns file listings only, for at this stage I have no experience with large databases of books or other collections.

So, Tellico runs rather slowly with such databases, and it then becomes very difficult to switch my DELL Inspiron to either sleep or hibernating modes. If I do so after I have worked on Tellico, it takes forever, that is, sometimes up to 10 - 15 minutes or more, to reach sleep mode, and about the same time to wake up. I have thus learnt to know that, after I have worked with Tellico on large files, I have to quit Tellico and then run a complete shutdown and reboot, if I am to expect my Inspiron to behave normally afterwards.

Could someone explain what is likely the reason of such a weird behaviour ? Could that be due to the fact that my Ubuntu system runs Gnome, while Tellico uses KDE ? My system is as follows : 2 GHz processor, 1 GB RAM

Is there another books/files/collections manager that could be expected to work better than Tellico, such as GCStar or else ?

I must say that this Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron) system runs fine with any other application, and that, for instance, I can have a large openoffice file open and put the laptop to sleep or to hibernate, and later have an almost instant wakeup on demand.
