Yep. The (CISC) VAX instruction set was designed partly with assembly programmers in mind (and also to map closely to FORTRAN and COBOL instructions), and the (macro, natch) assembler is designed with HLL features.


The Motorola 68000 series was allegedly designed partly with C in mind.

Patterned after the PDP-11 (), and DEC always liked orthogonal CISC chips.
