Re: problems activating wireless

hi,

my 'dsmeg | grep ipw' gives
ipw3945: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945 Network Connection driver for Linux, 1.1.2dmpr
ipw3945: Copyright(c) 2003-2006 Intel Corporation
ipw3945: Detected Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection
it does not differ from yours.
yes, it looks pretty similar.

Does this mean the daemon is running? I don't find an ipw3945d in /etc/init.d or somewhere else. Could this be the reason? If yes: in which packega do I find ipw3945d to start?
you should try to install ipw3945d then - it might be causing the trouble.

$apt-file search ipw3945d
ipw3945d: etc/init.d/ipw3945d
ipw3945d: etc/logrotate.d/ipw3945d
ipw3945d: etc/modprobe.d/ipw3945d
ipw3945d: sbin/ipw3945d
ipw3945d: usr/share/doc/ipw3945d/README.Debian
ipw3945d: usr/share/doc/ipw3945d/README.ipw3945d.gz
ipw3945d: usr/share/doc/ipw3945d/changelog.Debian.gz
ipw3945d: usr/share/doc/ipw3945d/copyright
ipw3945d: usr/share/man/man8/ipw3945d.8.gz

i've installed this machine long long time ago, when the ipw3945 stuff wasn't part of the package collection - at that time, it involved some fiddling (check http://lubos.vrbka.net/miscellaneous/amilo-pro-v3205 if you are interested) - but i don't think anything should be needed anymore.

best,
