Unfortunately ... it didn't help me, however I have other things to think of.
I performed some tests:
carramba@laptop-rg:~$ xset dpms force standby
carramba@laptop-rg:~$ xset dpms force suspend
carramba@laptop-rg:~$ xset dpms force suspend
carramba@laptop-rg:~$ xset dpms force off
carramba@laptop-rg:~$ xset dpms force off
And in every case result was the same as in my original problem ...

Will search further.
