Hello,
If you are running Debian on your EeePC and are using the eeepc-acpi
scripts from the debian repositories, you can configure everything in
/etc/acpi/actions and /etc/acpi/scripts.

I have mine set to shutdown when I close the lid, since the boot time
is so short and I don't want to waste the battery power. It should be
easy to modify the scripts so they don't cause a suspend (though you
might want to turn off the display to save battery.)

Cheers,
Elijah
