Gnome/X terminal resize

Hi, All

Got a minor problem,  
Desktop and laptop running Debian "lenny" 2.6.24-1
up to date with updates.
Problem:  On 'desktop' cannot resize Gnome or X-term windows by dragging
borders-- Laptop works fine.
Comparing terminal  config info to laptop install shows no setup
differences. No Errors reported in X-org logs..

Where should I looked further???    [don't need "use laptop"... 8-) ]
