If you do go this way, be sure the boot partition (or, if /boot is part of /, then *all* of the root partition), is contained withing the first 2GB space, so the BIOS can do its thing to boot the system.
Once that's done, as noted by Jochen (and others), Linux will boot and will see the full disk.
