What are you talking about?!?  He said it *fixes* your problem with
that series of laptop.  No need to wait for Debian releases.

I would have said:

As root:

   dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

and choose the "nv" driver.  That won't get you nVidia features, but
it would get you X.
