It is the same way set as the 'standard' locale, but there are some
programs whose do not like "C", and of course, Debian is now using
UNICODE as default, you should use "en_US.UTF-8" which will work very
nice.

Note:   C  =  us-ascii  =  en_US
        ...and "en_US.UTF-8" has only some extensions.  :-)
