update-grub help, menu.lst is not changing
Sorry about this newbie stuff question.
But, last full Debian way of configuration i was in was in the lilo days and Grub was still new.
It has been a while since..
OK, here goes..
I have edited /boot/grub/menu.lst
and tried to remove this line..
## ## End Default Options ##
title Debian GNU/Linux, kernel
2.6.18-4-686
root (hd0,1)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18-4-686 root=/dev/hda2 ro
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.18-4-686
savedefault
# this following lines, remove!
#title Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.18-4-686 (single-user mode)
#root (hd0,1)
#kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18-4-686 root=/dev/hda2 ro single
#initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.18-4-686
#savedefault
### END DEBIAN AUTOMAGIC KERNELS LIST
And after typing update-grub, that whole line goes back to being UN-commented. How can i edit that permanently? I have tried adding this..
updatedefaultentry=false
before
## ## End Default Options ##
But, it is still the same.
Please help!
