There are certainly a fair number of packages that don't correctly
support "make uninstall", but I'm not sure it's accurate to say it's
"rarely supported" or "most often it doesn't work".
For instance, automake-generated Makefiles do a reasonable job of it,
and that covers a lot of packages these days.
