This is not right since the two have different meanings. The file
~/.Xdefaults doea not exist but the FILES:
~/.Xdefaults-<host_alias>
which set Xdefault settings PER HOST. It is read automaticaly even in
the lates xorg and definitivly NOT deprecated since it allow NFS-User
to setup Xdefaults per host which MAY be different like my three
Workststions (Office, Devel and Multimedia)
[michelle.konzack@michelle1.private:~/] ls -AlGg .Xdefaults-*
-rw-r--r-- 1 42 2007-04-24 13:36 .Xdefaults-devel.private
-rw-r--r-- 1 46 2007-04-15 17:14 .Xdefaults-michelle1.private
-rw-r--r-- 1 46 2007-02-04 13:18 .Xdefaults-multimedia.private
And ~/.Xresources/ is used to set RESOURCE of singel X applications.
Please note, that the FILE ~/.Xresources is deprecated in favour of
the directory. ~/.Xresources/.
