Of course you were, but how is the system supposed to know where to
mount your USB device? My fstab looks like this:

/dev/sda1	/media/usbdisk	vfat
rw,user,noauto,noexec,nosuid,nodev,quiet,umask=077	0	0

And hotplugging works perfectly.
