Although this does not appear to be your problem, it is still a bit odd.  
Basically, it's a long way of saying

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
iface eth0 inet dhcp

My point being that the "mapping eth0" stanza an no-op that will always 
map to eth0...

Have you been using guessnet in the past? (just curious)
