Why exim4->mailspool->exim4?
The way it seems to work on my system is:
pop3 server
\/
fetchmail
\/
postfix
\/
spamassassin
\/
postfix
\/
mail spool (waits there if bug in maildrop script)
\/
maildrop
\/
~/Maildir
