To install skype with apt (or aptitude, or synaptic), just add the
following repository to your sources.list:

deb http://download.skype.com/linux/repos/debian/ stable non-free

For audio, perhaps checking out Tools, Options, Sound Devices (within
Skype), to make sure the correct audio device is selected, will help.
Or, using a mixer, make sure your microphone (or recording device) is
set at the correct levels to pick up your voice.  After adjusting your
soundcard settings with a mixer (or a volume control device), use the
Skype test call function to see if the levels are working.
