        I had the same problem.  First, you have to have kde and kdm installed.

        Finally, when all is done you can remove gdm, the
gnome-desktop-environment and other gnome packages as well.

Is this for completely replacing the gnome desktop? I want to use kde just for one session or whenever I want to demo it to my friends :) .  I want to have gdm and gnome intact.
