Possibly bugs in the drivers for motherboard chipset, but that's just an uneducated guess. I'm not sure about a fix, but trying to pinpoint in what kernel release this started to happen and then file a bug would be my advice. However, I would make sure that it isn't the hardware first. Double check the DVD reader, the cables and perhaps also the power supply.
Ooops - sorry Sven. My bad!OK, that sounds like a useful plan. I can change the DVD-reader and see if that helps, or at least if it doesn't, then the problem is common to the remaining hardware (mobo) or software (kernel)?
I was wondering if it might be something with Gnome for example, when it automounts, or ... ? But anyway, as I said previously in response to Andrew is give it a run through this weekend and see what gives. If/when it freezes, use that opportunity to turn the machine off and replace the drive. Can't hurt and is worth the effort if this helps.
Thanks A
