It may be a good idea to use command line apt-get / aptitude at least
for part of this: it's possible that the X server will be updated at some
point :)
The sources list for apt/aptitude and synaptic is /etc/sources.list
If you add cdroms with apt-cdrom add:
a line is placed at the top of your sources.list for each one.
If you have an ftp/http site after that, the ftp site will be used.
In other words, it reads from the first line down in order.
There is nothing to stop you having entries for two sites and
downloading packages from both at the same time but it is a bit
wasteful.
Once you don't need a source, comment it out by putting a # in the first
column.
Suggestion: Install from DVD's but also specify an FTP site when
prompted. Once you're happy that everything works, if you # out the
DVD lines then you'll get security updates and so on from the Net.
Hope this helps,
Andy
