no. the installer uses a 386 architecture which is compatible with amd cpu's

you must provide more details than this. what specifically is
happening. does it truly lock up? or does it just not show any
partitionable media? to test if its locked up try Alt-f2 which will
switch you to a virtual terminal. to switch back, alt-f1.
