You are probably having SATA disk and Debian Sarge 2.6.8 kernel does not have support for SATA disks. It would be better if you try Etch RC1 installer from here http://www.us.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/ As I run Testing(Etch)/Unstable(Sid) here, I would not be able to help much on Sarge (stable). If you are installing from scratch, then Etch should be fine for you as it is near to be released very soon. regards, Nishant
