about slow connection on debian vs xp

The real problem is obscure, since
nobody knows the facts.
Cable modem, router on it. Two boxes,
one debian, one xp. Xp works like
a charm, debian crawls.
No info for further investigation.

Regarding pppoe, the original poster
has cable modem. Simple ifconfig
would sufice for that. Or dhcp.
