Re: must run alsaconf alll the time for sound to work
I was not able to test this, since mpeg123 is no longer available trhough apt (how come?). Either way I reinstalled all crucial ALSA-packages, including the oss-emulation package. This had no effect on my problem.
Either way, thanks for the hint. Just too bad it didn't work. :)
If anyone else have an idea, please tell me.

Maybe a longshot, but still...
Try:
mpg321 -o alsa09 some-file.mp3
and
mpg321 -o oss some-file.mp3
If the second one doesn't work, it means the oss emulation is not
working.
Otherwise you might try to compare docs of the affected programs, to
see what they have in common.
