Hi, I must be missing something obvious, but I can't find how to set
attribution lines in Thunderbird.
An info first: if you are searching for an option, you should look in
about:config first. When an option doesn?t exist there, it doesn?t exist.
How do you about:config? This is Tbird, not Mozilla Mail.

Ok, here's how to do it. *Very* non-intuitive.

Edit->Preferences
Click the /Advanced/ icon
Click the /General/ tab
At the bottom right of the window is the Config Editor button.

Hey, presto! That's the Tbird about:config window.

Not bad. I never knew that. File this under "good ones". Thanks.

Is "common sense" really valid?
For example, it is "common sense" to white-power racists that
whites are superior to blacks, and that those with brown skins
are mud people.
However, that "common sense" is obviously wrong.
