What video driver are you using? are you sure its "nv" ? check you /etc/X11/xorg.conf or XF86-config4 file. if you using the generic "vesa" driver then that slow browsing would happen for sure. it doesn't always have 2d accelleration from what i have seen. thats why its generic.
