sid dist-upgrade emacs fonts boxes Warning: Cannot convert string "-*-courier-medium-r-*-*-*-120-*-*-*-*-iso8859-*" to type FontStruct

Hi,

after my last  SID
apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade :)

emacs fonts are not working.

mlaks@RAMBAM:~$ emacs filename
Warning: Cannot convert 
string "-*-courier-medium-r-*-*-*-120-*-*-*-*-iso8859-*" to type FontStruct
Warning: Cannot convert 
string "-*-helvetica-medium-r-*--*-120-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1" to type FontStruct

and all i get in emacs are square boxes not letters

on the other hand xemacs and zile work :)
but i get a similar error message even though it works in xemacs

what font handling subsystem needs to be adjusted to get 
emacs working again?
