With a few rare exceptions, the only difference between the debianized
source and the upstream source is the inclusion of a debian subdirectory
in the root of the source package.  The debian directory contains all of
the files required for the source package to be usable in Debian.  The
New Maintainer's Guide [1] should be your next stop.
