I have nvidia graphics card in my system and I had installed the nvidia binary drivers. When x was updated, it rewrote the libglx.so file which was a symlink to the actual file from nvidia driver. So, in xorg.conf, the driver module was still nvidia, but 3d performance was pathetic. Relinking solved the problem.
