Since Patrick is using Win98, he doesn't really *need* Grub to boot. He can install and use loadlin. Loadlin can load linux from within DOS and DOS-based OSs such as Win98. Loadlin doesn't work inside of NT-based OSs such as WinNT or XP, but it should work fine in Win98. Using loadlin, you don't have to modify Window's MBR.
