Ok, now I'm really confused. I uninstalled MySQL and reinstalled it. Perfect. Used PHPMyAdmin to change the root account's password. Still fine. Created a database for VSP (http://www.5th-gradient.com/vsp/) and updated it. It parses a game log and populates it's database. Fine.I actually changed the password while using phpmyadmin.did you select password in the function drop down box when editing theentries? passwords are not stored in clear text. but please, like tat said, check your ports and the bind-address in my.cnf. if you really messed up your root password and you have no write accessto the mysql database, there comes no way of rescuing to my mind than back up the database files, install again and copy them over to the new installation, except the old mysql database. but there are probably better ways to fix this.
Start browsing my local web server looking at VSP stats, still fine. Click on a link to look at game specific stats, and wham! Quits working.
"*Warning*: mysql_connect(): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2) in */usr/share/adodb/drivers/adodb-mysql.inc.php* on line *338* error: cannot establish database connection or database vsp20060318 does not exist"
Try a '/etc/init.d/mysql restart' and yet again: /usr/bin/mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failederror: 'Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)'
So, it was working for a few minutes, and then, without changing anything, it quits. Meh.
