Hauppage Nova-T PCI DVB receiver card not working

Hello folks,

I'm trying to set up this DVB card in my box.

The v4l drivers seem to work right, as in lots of useful stuff appears in dmesg, and lsmod shows some useful looking modules have appeared, but when I try to run "scan":

pvr@pvr:~$ scan -c
using '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0' and '/dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0'
main:1882: FATAL: failed to open '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0': 2 No such file or directory

Trying to makedev them manually seems to do nothing:

pvr@pvr:/dev$ sudo ./MAKEDEV dvb
pvr@pvr:/dev$ ls -ld dvb
ls: dvb: No such file or directory

Now, this machine has hotplug and udev, so I suspect the problem is either:

1) There's a lot of kernel modules involved; perhaps they're not *all* loaded. I can't find any reference to which ones to expect for my particular card. Not having all the modules might inhibit hotplug from kicking into action.

2) There's an issue with hotplug/udev that's making it not create the files in /dev

Here's the obligatory details:
