I've been using it for ages as well, but primarily because I have been
forced to. (I load up separate X screens for my wife and kids, just
as described by Kent.)
I've been forced to because KDM has stopped working. For the life of
me I cannot get it to load. In the /var/log/kdm files there are
messages about being refused an X connection, yet I can start X and
startx and run xfce fine. I've googled for solutions until I am dizzy.
(I don't use KDM myself, but my family are kind of hooked on it ! It
presents them with an opportunity to log in. KDE then presents them
with a plethoral of familiar-looking applications.)
