Hmm i think from where i sit (not in the UK) it is Aluminium, and
Aluminum is a case where spelling has been altered to fit the
(mis)pronunciation

It should be noted that it is only the 2 US sites that specify the
"British" spelling is a variant. Not exactly a statistically sound
sample.

If I was a cynical man I would think that it is a Nth American
conspiracy to render our children illiterate [;)]. Next thing we know
they'll be declaring "fries" to be fresh vegetables and the downward
spiral begins
