RE: silly question

I can’t believe that I am going take a swing at this pulpy dead horse, but I can’t resist J

  1. From “The Free On-line Dictionary of Computing”: /deb'ee`n/, *not* /deeb'ee`n/

Additionally: The name Debian is a contraction of DEB(ra) and IAN Murdock.

  1. Aluminum has one ‘i’ unless you’re from the UK, where it is Aluminium – this is a variant of Aluminum, not the other way around.
  2. The plural of “y’all” is “all y’all”
  3. In Boston they “pahk theyah cahs ovah theyah” – Yep, I’ve seen them do just that.

Anyone interested in burying this horse now?

Giddyup!

GJ

Come again? That "rule" doesn't apply to many of your examples!

OK up front I confess that i haven't been following this thread closely (probably since the second post), but I think you are assuming that everyone here is a yank. Not everyone in the English speaking world pronounce things the way you folks do (i hazard a guess that the majority don't)

That's "d'fault" or "duh'fault" not "dee-fault'

Ahh ... yes it is dee-fault

"dir-ectly" not "die-rectly"

again yes it is die-rectly

"pruh'nownce" or "praw'nownce" not "proh-nownce"

once again i must say it is proh-nounce

"kon-son'ant" not "kohn-son'ant" or "kon-sohn-ant"

"r'zent" or "ruh'zent" not "ree-zent"

once more you are incorrect, y'all might drop the 'ee' but we don't

>         obeying

"uh-bay-ing" or "aw-bay-ing" not "oh-bay-ing"

and again .... it is oh-bay-ing

"r'kwest" or "ruh'kwest" not "ree-kwest"

as per 'resent'

next you'll be telling us that it is "aluminum" ... check the periodic table ppl. there is a second letter 'i' in there somewhere

if you re going to nit pick about pronunciation you should be a little more careful.

Cheers
