If you are using udev, put this in a rules file (like 50ipod.rules) in
your /etc/udev/rules.d directory:


BUS="usb", SYSFS{manufacturer}="Apple", SYSFS{product}="iPod", NAME="ipod%n", GROUP="hal", MODE="0660"

udev will create the device node ipod for you
