Alright, lads and lasses. You may not believe this, but I got the wireless working.
Firstly, I gcompiled MADWiFi from the website at marlow.dk. I made sure to use both make-kpkg clean and to delete the linux symlink (which was present).
Then I simply used KWiFiManager to connect (via putting in the WEP key, the Network name and asking it to perform dhclient ath0 at connection time.
Finally, and most importantly, I set the search parameter on my
http://mynetwork to bellcanada.ca (yes, I was right; that was the problem; the no-domain-set.ca or what ever the devil it was literally was saying I needed to set the DNS.).
It now works quite nicely.
