The batteries (there are two sealed batteries in the unit) do not appear to
have degraded much in one year of service. Test performed at moderately low
load (~ 40%) because that's the data I had from one year ago. They lasted
for 59 minutes and a few seconds before hitting the "warn load to perform
clean shutdown" threshold (120 seconds of battery life at current draw
rate).

Braindead racoon shutdown scripts have convinced me to kick that margin up
to 5 minutes, though.

Anyway, the batteries probably have degraded < 5%, but without a calibrated
load I can't properly test anything with more precision (and I can't time
travel and do that test one year ago :-) ).

Thanks, Henrique. I was thinking of getting an APC BP500UC. The mobo I just bought and am running with has only 1 serial port, which has my external modem, so I need an UPS with USB connection.

I don't know what Smartups XL model you have, but from what I see that is 4 times the price of the above. Even so the APC BP500UC will be the priciest piece of gear on the system.

I would prefer to buy it in Mexico but so far looking for one produces zip.
