Debian stable doesn't contain the latest versions of software.  If you
require such, then please consider running testing or unstable (but note
that these are not suitable for a new Debian user, are not supported and
may break), or an alternative Debian-based distribution such as Ubuntu
or Knoppix.

Also, please inform yourself.  http://www.debian.org/releases

It's also probably a good idea not to send mail as root.
