I put it in ~/.xsession or ~/.xinitrc - and at the bottom, not 
the top, although it may be the only line in the file.  With a 
bit of luck, someone's going to explain the difference, and 
perhaps also whether and why you should use "exec" before it or 
put a '&' after it... ;)
