Hi,
I've had the same problem and solved it by installing libssl0.9.7,
libssl-dev and openssl. (I think you only need the libssl-dev but I was
desperate and installed them all ;) .
This is from memory and I was/am using the 2.6.8-2-686 kernel but hope
it works for you. I can look into it some more if it fails for you.
And oh, yes I got a DWL-G510 working fine with madwifi and
wpa_supplicant for WPA-PSK
