Problems with a Java Application

I've just unpacked Azureus, a torrent client, in my
home directory, when I try run it I get this:

Starting Azureus...
Java exec found in PATH. Verifying...
OOPS, you don't seem to have a valid JRE [java =
Kaffe]
You need to upgrade to JRE 1.4.x or newer from
http://java.sun.com
ls: /usr/java: No such file or directory
OOPS, unable to locate java exec in  /usr/java/ 
hierarchy
You need to upgrade to JRE 1.4.x or newer from
http://java.sun.com

I installed the jre from sun's site in my home
directory and changed the path in azureus to point to
the correct path, but nothing the difference is that

OOPS, unable to locate java exec in  /usr/java/ 
hierarchy

becomes

OOPS, unable to locate java exec in  /home/user/java 
hierarchy

Any ideas?
