network is not up, via-rhine problem

I've recently updated the 2.6.8-2 kernel due to the frozen sarge.
The thing is, i believe it has to be some problem with the via-rhine
module. cause it cant ifup the ethernet card.

when i do /etc/init.d/networking restart
sit0: unknown hardware address type 776
eth0: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device
sit0: unknown hardware address type 776
Bind Socket to interface: No such device
exiting
Failed to bring up eth0

This was working before the upgrade.
All the PCs are conected to a LAN with a dhcp-server.

any one have any suggestion to fix that?

thanks in advance
