    uid=0(root) gid=512(Domain Admins) groups=0(root)

Yup, you saw that right, uid=0. This is necessary unless you are using
samba 3.0.11+ with privileges.

if instead, it says "no such user" this means you need to install
libnss-ldap, and modify /etc/nsswitch.conf to have the lines:
    passwd:         compat ldap
    group:          compat ldap
