I don't think I'm gonna make it. I am not a total newbie, but I have just been using Linux for about a year and a half and all on my own too, noone to guide me. I would need either detailed instructions, or another, simpler method with a detailed howto, as this is the first time I am using any of these things (chroot jails, pam modules, emulation, guest, host kernels, etc)...

Have a look at qemu then. Compared to UML that's childsplay. It will however run a bit slower.
