I'm sorry to burden you with additional information, but after exiting
X, among the text lines appearing on the screen there were these ones:
FATAL: Error inserting radeon
(/lib/modules/2.3.11-ck3/kernel/drivers/char/drm/radeon.ko): Unknown
symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
[drm] failed to load kernel module "radeon"
(EE) RADEON(0): [dri] DRIScreenInit failed. Disabling DRI.
So it looks like I'm having a problem with the module built using the
drm-build script provided with the drm-trunk-module-src package from
the nixnuts repo.
