What branch are you using? Stable, Testing, Unstable? Desktop
environment - GNOME or KDE? For the purposes of answering your questions
below, I am assuming you are using Testing (sarge) and GNOME.

I'm trying out Ubuntu at the moment, so my menus are bit different...but
I _think_ that in gnome 2.8 the screen saver config stuff is in your
"Applications" menu --> "Preferences" --> "Advanced" --> "Screensavers"
If you click on that, you should have the option of using a single
screen saver or doing the random thing. If you do the random thing, only
the ones with a checkmark beside them will be randomly used. If you do
the single screensaver thing, you can only select one, and it will be
the only one that runs. In either case, find which screensaver is the
wireframe hypercube, and uncheck/deselect it.

I don't use thunderbird...but you might try looking for a hidden folder
such as ~/.thunderbird or some such.
