DVD problem
I have a box, with LG 2-layer DVD-burner in it. Up until yesterday, it
seemed to work flawlessly, burning DVD's and reading them without a
glitch. Now it does not. All I get, is these in syslog:
Apr 10 18:06:42 meissa kernel: hdc: tray open
Apr 10 18:06:42 meissa kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev hdc, sector 64
Apr 10 18:06:42 meissa kernel: isofs_fill_super: bread failed, dev=hdc, iso_blknum=16, block=16
And please do not tell me to close the tray... :) Even "eject" does not
work properly: it just takes a minute or so to do anything (cannot be
^C:ed in the meantime so I assume they are in uninterruptible sleep the
whole time). The tray opens fine after this delay.
Another nice thing to note is that CD-ROM's work fine in the same drive,
but no DVD works. DVD's don't even light the "busy" LED on the drive, when
I try to access them. It really is just like the drive tray was open.
I've tried all standard tricks like turning DMA off, but quite frankly, I
cannot see how these settings could have any meaning here since even
"eject" does not work correctly! (And, by the way, hdparm -I /dev/hdc
takes ages to complete, too. Everything does, IF and only if there is a
DVD in the drive.)
Did my drive's DVD part just break down? That would not be a big problem,
it's still under warranty. :) It's just inconveniency to do without a DVD
for the week or so it takes for them to replace it.
Thanks in advance.
