The main mplayer website page says the site has been closed down for patent 
infringements.

I guess you could try Totem or avifile-player.  avifile-player is available 
from Debian unstable and the w32codecs package is available by putting:

deb ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ unstable main
deb-src ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ unstable main

    in sources.list
