can't remove broken package

I downloaded an RPM and used alien to turn it into ad .deb, now however
I cannot get rid of it, and it is causing errors in dpkg. dpkg, in fact
wont do anything, here is an example:

44 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded.
Need to get 0B/27.6MB of archives.
After unpacking 1483kB of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n] y

That is an example from an apt-get upgrade, I have tried removing that
offending login.deb also, it doesnt help.

shrift:/usr/src# dpkg -i kernel-image-2.6.11.3_Custom.2_i386.deb
(Reading database ... dpkg: error processing

shrift:/usr/src#

There I was trying to install a kernel I compiled.

Also, the program fslint will error if I do a dpkg -L on it, so I cant
really figure out where it put itself.

Any thoughts?
