Problem with dpkg

My dpkg seems to be broken. I tried to install a package I downloaded,
and it seems to have broken dpkg. I have tried purging and removing
the package in a number of various ways. Any help would be
appreciated.

I get an error like this anytime I try to use dpkg for anything.

shrift:/usr/src# dpkg -i kernel-image-2.6.11.3_Custom.2_i386.deb
(Reading database ... dpkg: error processing
kernel-image-2.6.11.3_Custom.2_i386.deb (--install):
files list file for package `fslint' contains empty filename
Errors were encountered while processing:
 kernel-image-2.6.11.3_Custom.2_i386.deb
Processing was halted because there were too many errors.
shrift:/usr/src#
